The enduring power of Canadian county music legend Ian Tyson is showcased in Pyramid Productions’ Ian Tyson: This is My Sky — the cowboy icon’s first concert special in more than two decades. Ian Tyson: This is My Sky premieres Saturday, July 16th at 7:00pm MT on CBC Alberta.
Filmed at Calgary’s historic Knox United Church, Ian Tyson: This is My Sky features riveting renditions of some of Tyson’s greatest songs (Four Strong Winds, Someday Soon) and heartwarming duets with longtime friends, including roots rocker John Hiatt and bluegrass star Rhonda Vincent.
In addition to capturing one of the finest performances of his career, cameras follow Tyson to the Edmonton and Calgary Folk Festivals where fellow musicians and devoted fans share what Tyson’s music means to them.
“Ian Tyson keeps getting better and better,” producer Larry Day says. “There’s a little more gravel in his voice because there’s some miles on it, and that gives his songwriting and stories even more weight. His music today is as relevant as it‘s ever been. We’re very proud of this film.”
